Pet cremation services in Wilmington

Four pet cremation services are offered across the New Castle County market.

Communal cremation

Multiple pets cremated together in the same chamber. Ashes are not returned to individual families. The most affordable option around Wilmington.

Private cremation

Your pet is the only one in the chamber, and the ashes returned belong to your pet alone. Most Wilmington families choose this when they plan to keep their pet’s ashes.

Private vs. partitioned — what to ask

Private with witness

A subset of private cremation where you or your family can be physically present at the facility. Offered by a small number of New Castle County providers.

Aquamation

A gentler, water-based alternative to flame cremation that uses far less energy and produces no direct emissions. Legal for pets nationwide and offered by a growing number of New Castle County providers.

How it works

  1. We vet so you don’t have to.

We audit local providers annually — documentation, true individual cremation, reputation. Only one local provider per city earns the recommendation: the one we’d trust with our own pet.

  2. You reach the right provider.

Fill out the form below. We pass your information to the Wilmington provider we would trust with our own pet — and they walk you through the specifics for your pet, including pricing for your situation.

  3. Your pet is cared for.

Pickup, cremation, and return of ashes — and you know what’s happening at every step. One call. They take it from there. Get back to grieving — not researching.

Why a trusted provider matters

Pet cremation isn’t the most transparent industry, and the provider you choose decides what happens to your pet.

  • 60% of Delaware providers publish no price.

Of the 5 Delaware providers we reviewed in 2026, 2 published full pricing online. Pricing genuinely varies by weight and service — but the result is that you often do not know what you will pay until you are already on the phone.

  • Price scales with your pet's weight.

A 10-pound cat and a 90-pound dog do not cost the same to cremate — a heavier body takes longer in the chamber and burns more fuel. Most providers use two to four weight tiers, and the spread between the low and high tier on the same service commonly runs $100–$300.

  • The smallest provider pool we cover — and the easiest to escape.

Five providers statewide would be a serious constraint anywhere else. In Delaware it matters less, because Wilmington sits within a short drive of Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. That effectively turns a five-provider market into a regional one — and Maryland in particular is worth knowing about, because its new consumer-protection law takes effect on 1 October 2026.

  • The clinic's provider is a default, not an obligation.

Vet clinics often bundle cremation into the euthanasia invoice. It is genuinely convenient at a moment when arranging it yourself is close to unthinkable — but it sometimes carries a markup, and you are free to arrange your own provider instead.

Questions Wilmington families ask

How much does pet cremation cost in Wilmington?

Among Delaware providers that publish pricing, private (individual) cremation clusters around a median of $215–$432, with the full published range running $150–$450. Communal cremation, where ashes are not returned, runs lower — $50–$225 published. Price tracks your pet's weight most of all. Always ask for the all-in total in writing, including pickup and the urn.

Should Wilmington families look across the state line?

It is unusually practical here. Delaware has five providers; Pennsylvania has 64, Maryland 10 and New Jersey 10, and all three lines are within a short drive of Wilmington. Maryland is especially worth considering from 1 October 2026, when its Pet Cremation and Burial Services Consumer Protection Act takes effect — requiring registration, written documentation of the cremation type, and five-year recordkeeping, enforced by the Attorney General. No Delaware law offers an equivalent.

Is aquamation available in Delaware?

Proportionally, yes — two of the five Delaware providers offer it, which is 40% and among the highest rates we recorded. But two providers is two providers, so availability in absolute terms is limited and depends on where in the state you are. Published aquamation pricing here spans $50 to $450, an unusually wide range for such a small pool, so ask what is included at the quoted figure.

Does Delaware license pet crematories?

No. Delaware has no state licence, inspection regime, or consumer-protection standard written specifically for pet cremation — the crematory rules that do exist govern human remains. That does not mean providers are careless; most are careful people doing difficult work well. It means the checks that protect you are the ones you ask for: that your pet is the only animal in the chamber for the full cycle, and that a numbered ID tag travels from pickup to return.

Is aquamation available near Wilmington?

Yes, and unusually widely — 2 of the 5 Delaware providers we reviewed offer aquamation, about 40%. It is a gentler water-based alternative to flame cremation, and not reliably cheaper — nationally the medians overlap.

What is the difference between private and communal cremation?

Private (individual) cremation means your pet is cremated alone and the ashes come back to you. Communal means several pets are cremated together and no ashes are returned, which is why it costs less. If getting your own pet's ashes back matters, you need private — and it is worth confirming in writing that private means a truly individual chamber.
