The most transparent pet cremation market we have measured

Nevada is the exception that proves the rule. Fifty-five percent of the Nevada providers in our review publish full pricing — against 18% nationally, and 6% in New York. In a market defined by opacity, Reno is where you can actually compare before you call. Our 2026 study of 1,224 U.S. providers put the national median for private cremation between $183 and $390 by weight, with communal around $100–$175. Use those as your sanity check, and ask one provider for the all-in total — pickup, urn, everything — in writing before you commit.

Pet cremation services in Reno

Four pet cremation services are offered across the Washoe County market.

Communal cremation

Multiple pets cremated together in the same chamber. Ashes are not returned to individual families. The most affordable option around Reno.

Private cremation

Your pet is the only one in the chamber, and the ashes returned belong to your pet alone. Most Reno families choose this when they plan to keep their pet’s ashes.

Private vs. partitioned — what to ask

Private with witness

A subset of private cremation where you or your family can be physically present at the facility. Offered by a small number of Washoe County providers.

Aquamation

A gentler, water-based alternative to flame cremation that uses far less energy and produces no direct emissions. Legal for pets nationwide and offered by a growing number of Washoe County providers.

How it works

  1. We vet so you don’t have to.

We audit local providers annually — documentation, true individual cremation, reputation. Only one local provider per city earns the recommendation: the one we’d trust with our own pet.

  2. You reach the right provider.

Fill out the form below. We pass your information to the Reno provider we would trust with our own pet — and they walk you through the specifics for your pet, including pricing for your situation.

  3. Your pet is cared for.

Pickup, cremation, and return of ashes — and you know what’s happening at every step. One call. They take it from there. Get back to grieving — not researching.

Why a trusted provider matters

Pet cremation isn’t the most transparent industry, and the provider you choose decides what happens to your pet.

  • 27% of Nevada providers publish no price.

Of the 11 Nevada providers we reviewed in 2026, 6 published full pricing online. Pricing genuinely varies by weight and service — but the result is that you do not know what you will pay until you are already on the phone, on the worst day of your year.

  • Price scales with your pet's weight.

A 10-pound cat and a 90-pound dog do not cost the same to cremate — a heavier body takes longer in the chamber and burns more fuel. Most providers use two to four weight tiers, and the spread between the low and high tier on the same service commonly runs $100–$300.

  • 55% of Nevada providers publish a price — the best we have measured.

Nationally, 60% of the 1,224 providers in our study publish nothing at all. Nevada inverts that: 6 of 11 publish full pricing. Use it. This is one of the few markets in the country where you can genuinely compare two quotes before picking up the phone.

  • The clinic's provider is a default, not an obligation.

Vet clinics often bundle cremation into the euthanasia invoice. It is genuinely convenient at a moment when arranging it yourself is close to unthinkable — but it sometimes carries a markup, and you are free to arrange your own provider instead.

Pet cremation coverage across Washoe County.

A ballpark you can plan from.

Nevada law requires a pet-only cremation area, so it is entirely fair to ask a Reno provider to describe theirs. Reno pet cremation pricing is not standardised — but it is not a mystery either. Plan from what is real, and reach the provider we would trust with our own pet when you are ready.

Questions Reno families ask

How much does pet cremation cost in Reno?

Among Nevada providers that publish pricing, private (individual) cremation clusters around a median of $217–$392, with the full published range running $75–$590. Communal cremation, where ashes are not returned, runs lower — $20–$305 published. Price tracks your pet's weight most of all. Always ask for the all-in total in writing, including pickup and the urn.

Why won't most Reno providers publish a price?

Because they are not required to. In our 2026 review of 11 Nevada providers, 6 — 55% — published full pricing, and 27% published none at all. Pricing genuinely varies by weight and service type, which is part of the reason. But the effect is that you cannot compare before you engage.

Does Nevada license pet crematories?

Nevada gives you more legal footing than most states. Under NRS 452.675 a person may not operate a pet crematory unless the facility has an area designated only for the cremation of pets, and NRS 452.650 lets your county or city adopt ordinances governing how pet crematories are maintained and operated. Be precise about what that covers, though: the dedicated-area rule is about the facility, not a written guarantee that your individual pet is cremated alone.

Is aquamation available near Reno?

Yes, and unusually widely — 4 of the 11 Nevada providers we reviewed offer aquamation, about 36%. Aquamation is a gentler water-based alternative to flame cremation. It is not reliably cheaper; nationally our medians for the two overlap.

Can you bury a pet in your backyard in Washoe County?

It depends on where you live, because this is a local rule rather than a state one. Nevada has no general statute setting conditions for burying a healthy pet on your own property. The one state rule on the books, NRS 571.200, reaches only animals that died of disease, under a roughly three-foot disposal standard. For an ordinary pet death, check Reno and Washoe County ordinance.

What does Nevada's designated-area requirement actually mean?

Under NRS 452.675, a pet crematory may not operate in Nevada unless the facility maintains an area designated only for the cremation of pets. That is a real statutory requirement and more than most states impose. Be precise about its limits, though: it governs the facility, not your individual pet. It does not, in itself, promise that your pet was cremated alone in the chamber. It is a good thing to ask a Reno provider to describe, and a poor substitute for asking the individual-cremation question directly.

Why is Nevada pricing so much easier to find?

We do not know why, but the pattern is clear and unusual. Fifty-five percent of the Nevada providers in our 2026 review publish full pricing, against 18% nationally and as low as 6% in New York. Nevada is also one of the few states with a statutory baseline for pet crematories and explicit authority for local governments to regulate them further, which may or may not be related. Either way, the practical upshot for a Reno family is real: this is one of the few markets where you can compare before you call.
