Communal cremation
Multiple pets cremated together in the same chamber. Ashes are not returned to individual families. The most affordable option around Atlanta.
Private (individual) cremation means your pet is cremated alone and the ashes returned are theirs. Around Atlanta it runs a median of $205–$482 by weight. Eight of Georgia's 65 providers are based in Atlanta itself, more in-city providers than any market we cover. In a state where only 11% publish a price, that local density is the most useful thing you have.

Eight of Georgia's 65 providers are based in Atlanta itself, more in-city providers than any market we cover. In a state where only 11% publish a price, that local density is the most useful thing you have. Private cremation nationally runs a median of $182–$390 by weight against $100–$175 for communal, a gap of about $100 at the entry tier. The premium buys one thing: your pet alone in the chamber, with the identification needed to return their ashes to you.

Your pet is the only one in the chamber, and the ashes returned belong to your pet alone. Most Atlanta families choose this when they plan to keep their pet’s ashes.
Private vs. partitioned — what to askA subset of private cremation where you or your family can be physically present at the facility. Offered by a small number of Fulton County providers.

Pickup, cremation, and return of ashes — and you know what’s happening at every step. One call. They take it from there. Get back to grieving — not researching.
Pet cremation isn’t the most transparent industry, and the provider you choose decides what happens to your pet.
Most markets we cover have one to five providers inside the city. Atlanta has eight. That matters because Georgia publishes so little — only 7 of 65 providers show full pricing — so the comparison has to happen by phone. Eight local options turns that from a research project into an afternoon.
Across the 1,224 providers in our 2026 review, just 63 hold IAOPCC accreditation — the one pet-specific standards body in the industry. That is not an accusation; most providers are careful people doing difficult work well. It means the assurance behind the word private is usually the provider's own, so the questions you ask are the verification.
A heavier body takes longer in the chamber and burns more fuel, so most providers use two to four weight tiers. The spread between the lowest and highest tier on the same service commonly runs $100–$300, which is why asking for your pet's specific tier removes most of the uncertainty in one question.
Witnessed cremation typically adds $50–$200 over the standard private price, and custom urns or engraving run $50–$400 or more billed separately. None of this is a trick — but it is why two quotes that look far apart may describe the same service. Ask for one itemised all-in figure.

That is what private cremation should mean, and in most of the country the only thing standing behind it is the question you asked and the answer you got in writing. Ask it. A good provider will not mind.
Connect with our trusted Atlanta providerAmong Georgia providers that publish pricing, private (individual) cremation clusters around a median of $205–$482, with the full published range running $59–$485. Communal, where no ashes are returned, runs lower at $90–$479 published. Price tracks your pet's weight most of all — ask which tier your pet falls into and what that tier costs.
Not visibly, and we would rather say so. Atlanta has eight in-city providers, the most of any market we cover, yet only 11% of Georgia providers publish pricing and the published private median band runs $205 to $482 — sitting in the upper half nationally rather than the lower. Density without transparency does not automatically produce competition. What it does produce is convenient access to a second and third quote, which is the practical benefit.
No. Georgia's funeral oversight under Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. 250-6 governs the State Board of Funeral Service, which regulates funeral establishments and crematories for human remains only. No Georgia agency issues a consumer licence to a pet crematory, and there is no Georgia equivalent of the consumer-protection statutes a handful of other states have enacted. The verification is yours to do: individual chamber, numbered tag, written confirmation.
It should mean your pet is the only animal in the chamber for the full cycle, and that the ashes returned are theirs. But no regulator defines the term in most of the country, and some providers use it for partitioned cremation — several pets in one chamber separated by dividers. Both are legitimate services at legitimate prices; the failure is only when the difference is not made clear. Ask the specific question rather than trusting the label.
Four questions, all reasonable, all worth asking in writing. Is my pet the only animal in the chamber for the full cycle? Do you use a numbered ID tag that stays with my pet from pickup to return, and will the number match the ashes? What documentation comes back? And may I witness it? A provider comfortable answering all four is telling you something useful — and many will offer before you ask.
For burial, substantially — the metro spans Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett and more, plus dozens of municipalities, and Georgia sets no statewide backyard-burial standard, so the rule depends on your exact address. For cremation the picture is simpler: no Georgia jurisdiction licenses pet crematories, so the questions you ask a provider are the same across the metro. What does change with location is which of the eight in-city providers can reach you quickly.
The upper end is. Georgia's published private median band runs $205–$482, and that $482 upper figure sits above the national median band ceiling of $390. The floor, at $59, is ordinary. With only 11% of Georgia providers publishing, a wide band built on twelve published price points should be treated as indicative rather than definitive — but if you are quoted near $480 for a mid-sized dog, a second call is warranted.
